A.C. Read Golf Course is a military, 45 hole golf facility located on Pensacola Naval Air Station, Pensacola, Florida. The course is open to the public. The facility has The Executive eighteen hole course and three nine holes courses. The nine hole courses are the Lakeview Course, The Bayview Course and The Bayou Course. These regulation length 9-hole courses can be combined to form different 18 hole combinations.
The A.C. Read Golf Course Chapionship Course (s) first opened for play in the 1940's, they were designed by Bill Amick, and were updated and redesigned in the 1990s by Jerry Pate.
The three nine hole course segments of the Chapionship Course (s) are tight and have narrow, well-bunkered fairways. There are many oak trees lining the fairways, and water hazards come into play on several holes. The main challenges on these courses are the many well-placed greenside bunkers.
The course(s) have a parkland style of layout with pine tree lined fairways over flat land, with 6 or 7 holes directly on the bayou. The course(s) are well bunkered, the greens are on the large side, a bit elevated, and there's some water in play. Most of the par 4's and 5's require you to shape your tee ball to have an ideal shot to the green, and it's not all that forgiving if you're off-line. Great course for the lower handicapper, but fair for all levels.
